Javascript Applications Developer

We have a vacancy for a Javascript Applications Developer to form part of a front-end team working on our financial trading platform and associated software.

A central project will involve our award-winning PureDeal platform, which caters for spread betting, CFDs and DMA trading. PureDeal is an extremely exciting project to work on, especially from a front-end developer's perspective, as we are constantly testing the limits of web browsers' capabilities.

We are looking for a developer who loves technology and who strives towards elegant and efficient design. The successful candidate will be involved in developing cutting edge software as part of our current and forthcoming suite of real-time trading and analysis software.

Job responsibilities

  • To contribute to the planning and subsequent development of IG Index applications in line with IG's IT policies and procedures
  • To work within IG's development/project life cycle from analysis to implementation, test and release
  • To work as part of the Development team and as part of specific development project teams as dictated by project delivery and deadlines
  • To remain up-to-date in respect of current and future upgrades as they relate to own and the team's area of work
  • To participate in relevant IT and non-IT projects as directed by your line manager

Essential criteria

  • You must have a minimum of three years' experience using , Javascript, CSS, cross browser development, ajax, jsp, SVN, unit testing, TDD and BDD
  • Experience of working with complex layouts using ajax, and developing for all browsers
  • A good knowledge of object orientation and associated design patterns and an awareness of their role in large front-end web applications
  • Understanding of Agile software design methodologies
  • Knowledge of enterprise design concepts and implementation
  • Significant development experience using HTML/Javascript /CSS to deliver elegant yet sophisticated web interfaces
  • Demonstrable understanding of complex Javascript development concepts
  • Understanding of front-end performance issues
  • A desire to work towards compliance standards in front-end development, promoting semantic mark-up, accessibility and SEO
  • Strong experience in a range of JS frameworks - jQuery, YUI, ExtJs, Prototype
  • Awareness and experience of modern web development technologies including HTML5
  • You must be a self-starting, enthusiastic team-player who will be willing and able to help colleagues; articulate with excellent communication skills; deadline/delivery conscious; and flexible to changing priorities

Desirable criteria

  • Development experience with HTML5
  • Java, Spring, jsunit, jstestdriver, selenium, maven
  • Degree-level education (preferably in software engineering or a scientific subject)

We would love to hear from you if you have at least three years' proven commercial front-end development experience and come from a programming or software engineering background, being expert in Javascript, html (including html5), CSS and rich internet application user interfaces. In addition, you should be confident in your own ability, passionate about what you do and willing to work within a busy team environment, as well as on your own initiative.
