Online Media Planner and Buyer

We have a vacancy for an Online Media Planner and Buyer, to plan and purchase online media across multiple external websites, primarily in the UK and Europe, but also US and Asian sites. The role also provides support to our regional offices, where in some cases the planning and buying is done locally.

As the online media planner and buyer for a large international company, you will be responsible for developing strategic and cost effective campaigns that will reach the greatest number of people in our target audience. You will support various teams in delivering growth of new customer acquisition through the planning/buying of online media.

You need to be knowledgeable about our products, and knowledgeable about competitors while also staying ahead of current industry trends. In this hands-on role you will work hand in hand with the Ad Operations team and local marketing teams to analyse the performance of campaigns and adjust future campaigns based on performance. As a confident negotiator you are able to recognise opportunities and secure the best deals with media owners.

This is a new position within an established and growing FTSE 250 global company, and it is the perfect role for an experienced online media planner and buyer who is motivated by results and is enthusiastic about improving the return this channel delivers to our business. You should be a quick learner, well-organised, able to show initiative and motivated by results. You are able to work independently, can respond to instructions and you have excellent communication skills.

Job responsibilities

  • Managing relationships and negotiating with digital media owners and networks to ensure best rates
  • Consulting local territories on both the corporate and local goals and determine how to best achieve both
  • You will work closely with other internal departments, including the Creative, Communication Strategy and Ad Operations teams
  • Ensuring that adverts run accurately so the desired media message is seen and heard by consumers
  • Reporting and budget management, including preparing costing and producing spending updates throughout the campaign
  • Recommending the most appropriate types of media to use, as well as the most effective time periods, duration of delivery, locations, frequency etc of media placement
  • Work to deadlines and manage expectations
  • Develop deep understanding of product, campaign and business objectives
  • Manage post-campaign analysis and buying reviews
  • Ensure all media schedules are maintained during the buying process

Essential criteria

  • At least two years' experience in a media planning/buying role within a media agency
  • Strong media planning experience and strong strategic thinking and negotiating skills
  • Good working knowledge of DSPs
  • Experience trafficking a campaign from start to finish will be considered highly advantageous
  • Strong mathematics and exceptional analytic and forecasting skills
  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills
  • Must be detail-oriented, very organised, a multi-tasker and able to work well under pressure
  • Previous experience having worked across the international market place (Europe would be a strong advantage)
  • Ability to think creatively and identify new opportunities
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to use own initiative
  • Fluent in English and degree qualified
  • Self-starting, enthusiastic team-player with a positive attitude and strong commercial focus

Desirable criteria

  • Experience using Omniture
  • A second language
  • Knowledge of SEM/SEO
  • Previous experience as in an ad operations role
